My review | Simulation of power converters using matlab-simulink

Understanding simulation tools is essential for the engineers nowadays. It is because they provide the first platform to test the hypothesis and ideas. Several simulation software are available in market that can be used to simulate the circuits. Recently, while i was arranging my documents i came across a wonderful article on the simulation of power electronic converters using matlab-simulink, and in this blog post i would like to  present my thoughts about this work. So here is what my review is

  • The work is ideal for the beginners who are interested in learning the basics of simulation.
  • The simulation is designed on the basis of equations and hence, it does not require sim power system block for simulation.
  • The approach of the work is very systematic. First, it derives the voltage balance equation of a particular load using KVL. Then based on the equation, the relationship of current and voltage for each component is established. Later, a simulink model is designed based only on the equations.
  • The book chapter discusses the basic dc-dc converters as well as the three phase induction motor speed control using a dc-ac PWM inverter.
  • The chapter although presents the comparison of simulation and experimental results however, lacks the comparison of simulation results with that of a sim power system based simulation.
